When was the last time you did a braai with your friends or family? A braai is one of oldest traditions in South African culture, but one thing for sure is that a braai is not complete without a salad, chakalaka or papa.
Some spice up their braai’s by having a rostekoek on one side of the grid. Perfect Sishebo will spice up your braaing event with some spicy braai side dish recipes.
Here’s a list of our favourite side dishes to have on a braai:
1. Potato Salad
Our potato salad is very easy to prepare, using only 8 ingredients which are usually in one’s grocery shopping list. It will go well with your braaied chops and boerewors!
2. Curried Bean Salad
This bean salad is a must have and can be easily turned into a Three Bean Salad by substituting baked beans with red kidney beans and adding butter beans in addition to the green beans already used in the recipe.
Red beans will give the dish a boost of colour whereas butter beans and green beans will give a variation in shape. Always remember the visual appeal!
3. Savoury Pap with Onion and Potato
This pap will get you to give your braai guest something different. It’s tasty, fluffy and it’ll get people asking for the recipe.
One can always add finely chopped red pepper and yellow pepper to add a boost of colour to the recipe!
4. Spicy Tomato Relish and Boerewors
While boerewors are sizzling on the braai, we suggest you prepare this tomato relish to go with your rosterkoek or pap. Our Chefs say it is an essential for every braai occasion!
