Curried Mince with Steamed Bread

Ingredients

For the steamed bread:
  • 4 cups (512 g) cake flour
  • 1 sachet (10 ml) instant yeast
  • 4 Tbsp. (60 g) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) salt
  • 1 cup (250 ml) warm water

For the curried mince:
  • 1 Tbsp. (15 ml) cooking oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. (15 ml) Rajah Mild & Spicy Curry Powder
  • 400 g beef mince
  • ½ cup (75 g) frozen peas
  • 1 Knorrox Beef Stock Cube
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) Robertsons Mixed Herbs
  • 1 cup (250 ml) water
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 ml) Knorr Rich Beef & Tomato Soup

Instructions

To make the steamed bread:
  • Place the cake flour into a bowl.
  • Add the dry yeast, sugar and salt.
  • Add the water and knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Place into a well-oiled bowl and allow to rise until double in size
  • Place a saucer in a large pot and place the bowl on top. Cover the bowl halfway with water and bring to the boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes or until firm.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool.

To make the curried mince:
  • In a pot, brown the onion in oil.
  • Add the Rajah Mild & Spicy Curry Powder and fry for one minute stirring continuously.
  • Add the mince and fry until well browned.
  • Add the frozen peas, Knorrox Beef Stock Cube, Robertsons Mixed Herbs and water and allow to simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Just before done mix the Knorr Rich Beef & Tomato Soup with four tablespoons of water to make a smooth paste then stir it into the pot and simmer for a further five minutes to thicken.
  • Serve with wedges of steamed bread.
