Spicy Zulu Home Chicken

Prep 50 Mins, Cook 80 Mins, 10 Ingredients, Serves: 6


  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 ml) cooking oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) Rajah Medium Curry Powder
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Robertsons Chicken Spice
  • 1 cup (250 ml) water
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 Knorrox Chicken Stock Cubes
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Robertsons Mixed Herbs


  • Place the whole chicken into a bowl and pour boiling water over it.
  • Pluck or remove the feathers, then scrub the skin to remove any hairs.
  • Portion the chicken into 8 pieces.
  • Heat oil in a large pot and fry the onion and green pepper until soft.
  • Add the Rajah Medium Curry Powder and the Robertsons Chicken Spice and fry for 2 minutes stirring continuously to release the flavours and aroma.
  • Add the water, Knorrox Chicken Stock Cubes, your chicken pieces and bring to the boil.
  • Reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 45 minutes.
  • Then add the potatoes and Robertsons Mixed Herbs and simmer for a further 15 minutes or until the potatoes and the chicken are tender.
  • Serve with rice, pap or steamed bread.
